ปี 2012 นี้ ทางแบรนด์ Audemars Piguet ได้ทำการฉลองครบรอบ 40 ปี ของตำนานแห่งนาฬิกาสปอร์ต รอยัลโอ๊ค อย่างสมศักดิ์ศรีด้วยนาฬิการุ่นพิเศษ ฉลุโชว์กลไกที่บางที่สุด ซึ่งจะผลิตขึ้นเพียงแค่ 40 เรือนเท่านั้น
กลไกที่ใช้กับรุ่นนี้คือ Cal. 2121 ซึ่งเป็นหนึ่งในกลไกอัตโนมัติที่บางที่สุดในโลก ด้วยความหนาเพียง 3.05 มิลลิเมตร โดยกลไกที่บางเฉียบเครื่องนี้ได้ถูกฉลุเปลือยให้เห็นส่วนประกอบทั้งหมด และมีการขัดลวดลายบนทุกชิ้้นส่วนอย่างประณีตด้วยมือ ส่วนตัวโรเตอร์เป็นแบบชิ้นเดียวทำด้วยทอง 22 กะรัต โดยสลักข้อความ AP Royal Oak 1972-2012 เอาไว้เพื่อบ่งบอกความพิเศษ บรรจุมาในตัวเรือนขนาด 39 mm ซึ่งเป็นขนาดเดียวกันกับ รอยัลโอ๊ค ตัวต้นฉบับสมัยปี 1972 โดยสามารถกันน้ำได้ 50 เมตร และผนึกกระจกแซฟไฟร์ทั้งด้านหน้าและหลัง ซึ่งเป็นแบบตัดแสงสะท้อน ส่วนวัสดุที่ใช้ทำตัวเรือนและบานพับล๊อครุ่นใหม่ระบบล๊อคสองชั้นนั้นทำด้วยวัสดุแพลตินั่ม
The Royal Oak is 40 years young in 2012. This spectacular non-conformist watch that has always been ahead of its time has made an indelible imprint on the history of Audemars Piguet. As the first luxury sports watch ever, the Royal Oak has become a legend. To celebrate this anniversary in due style, the Manufacture in Le Brassus now unveils the Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak, an interpretation combining horological mastery and modernity with a sporting temperament. In light of its exceptional nature, this platinum anniversary edition is issued in a limited series of just 40. It was thus the famous Calibre 2121, one of the world’s thinnest mechanical selfwinding models at just 3.05 mm thick.
The 39 mm diameter of this Openworked Extra-Thin Royal Oak is identical to that of the 1972 Royal Oak. Considered outsized and extravagant at the time of its launch, it shaped the trend for larger watches and now represents a medium-sized diameter. The platinum case is water-resistant to 50 metres and fitted with glareproofedsapphire crystals front and back. All the refined finishing and decoration of the movement may be admired at leisure. The new folding clasp, also in 950 platinum, is distinguished by a double safety fastening system.
